Shower and Bath Seats

Designed for both safety and comfort, shower and bath seats are available in many styles. The stool models, without arms or backs, are ideal for very small spaces.  Bath chairs with backs and perhaps even arms provide greater stability and support while seated.  Bathtub boards secure and mount on top of the tub walls spanning the tub, creating a bench type seat.  Most styles offer adjustable seat heights, non-slip rubber tips and drainholes on the seating surface to prevent pooling. To ensure optimum safety, install at least one wall-mounted or tub-mounted grab bar to be used in conjuction with the bath or shower seat.

What to consider when selecting a shower and bath seat...

  1. Which type of seat is most suitable? (with or without a backrest?..., with or without armrests?..., plain or padded seat?)
  2. What are the maximum size dimensions at the base?...at the seat?
  3. What is the minimum weight capacity required?
  4. What is the optimum seat height, size and shape?
  5. Which style is preferrable?  (all composite plastic?...aluminum and plastic?... color preference?...traditional or modern look?...folding for easy transport and storage?)
  6. Special requirements?  (seat with commode cut-out?..., sliding, swivel or extended seat for easier transferring?..., rolling chair for transporting to and from the bathing area?)
